Yes. The vast majority of jet ski tours offered in Tenerife are guided tours: you ride in a convoy, following the operator's professional skipper at all times. They carry the legal responsibility for navigation, so as a customer you don't need your own boating licence or previous experience.

How it works

How a licence-free guided tour works

Before heading out you get a safety briefing with the basic handling instructions. Then you head out in a small group behind the skipper, who sets the route and speed. You control your own jet ski, but always within the convoy and under their supervision — it's that professional supervision that means customers aren't required to hold a licence.

When you do need a licence: self-drive rental

The licence question comes into play in a different scenario: self-drive rental, where you ride on your own with no guide leading the way. In that case, it's common in Spain to require a boating licence (depending on the jet ski's power).
